Educator’s Guide To A Successful Retirement  (Prudent) as of October 2020
CTA wants you to have a long and happy retirement. CalSTRS and CalPERS generally covers only about half of your income at retirement, so it is essential that members consider a supplementary retirement savings plan as early as possible to make up the difference. There are a lot of plans offered to educators, but many have high fees or surrender charges.

In this session, we help you get started toward a financially secure retirement, review how to avoid suboptimal plans, and discuss the basics of saving for retirement using easy-to-understand terms. We will highlight The CTA 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan which was designed by CTA for educators and the only plan endorsed by CTA. The CTA RSP has high-quality investments at a low cost and a simple “quick enrollment” process that makes saving for retirement easy.

Generation Debt: Student Loan Forgiveness (NEAMB) as of August 2020
Student loan debt is now the second category of consumer debt in America today, with $33,000 as the average amount owed. Due to the educators being lifelong learners, and continuing their education past a Bachelor’s Degree, many educators owe (much!) more. During this session we will focus on the three student loan forgiveness programs available from the US Department of Education, the requirement and process of forgiveness, and how to prevent being denied forgiveness. In addition, NEA Member Benefits has made the “NEA Student Debt Navigator” powered by Savi FREE to all NEA and CTA members for the first year. This tool will analyze members’ specific student loan debt and assist with the paperwork process. To RSVP for a session, visit:
